How to Draw a Shoe – Full Tutorial

Here are the steps you should follow to draw an attractive-looking sneaker.

1. Prepare Your Tools

You’ll only need a pencil, eraser, and paper to draw your shoe. You can also get some colors to spice up your drawing after finishing.

2. Outline Your Shoe

Outline Your Shoe

Since sneakers have flat heels, you can use a ruler or any straight object to draw the heel of your shoe. First, draw a straight horizontal line across your page. Then, extend a small curve vertically from each side, with the right curve being a bit more circular.

Next, go to the left side of the shoe and complete your vertical curved line with a small horizontal line to indicate the end of the heel. Extend an upright and slightly curved line from the heel upwards to resemble your shoe’s back.

Then, extend a horizontal curved line from the shoe’s back and make it dip a little to show the opening of your sneaker. Next, take the line back up and end it with a downward curve. From this little curve, draw a series of wavy lines that slope down to outline the laces. Finally, connect the laces and the front of the heel with a curved line that looks like half an oval.

You should now have a fully enclosed shoe outline that includes a flat heel, laces, and shoe opening.

3. Add the Laces

Add the Laces

Go to the sloping wavy lines you drew in the previous step, and draw four tiny ovals perpendicular to the shoe outline. Leave a small distance between every two ovals, and connect them with a slightly curved line parallel to the shoe outline. Leave a considerable distance between this line and the front of the shoe. Also, don’t connect it to anything.

Next, draw half a circle around each oval, and make sure it’s directed toward the inside of the shoe. Finally, draw another parallel line that touches the half-circles you just drew.

Your ovals should now look enclosed between the shoe’s outline and a parallel line, and your half-circles should look enclosed between two parallel lines. The ovals are the shoelace, and the half-circles are the metal rims around them.

4. Draw Shoe Details

Draw Shoe Details

In this step, you’ll add some details to your shoe to make it look more realistic. First, draw a horizontal line parallel to the heel you drew in the previous steps. Then, make sure it curves slightly from both ends, just like the heel, and connect it to the back and front of your shoe.

Next, draw a curved line that connects the front of the shoe to the heel, and make sure it touches the parallel line you drew for the laces in the previous step.

Finally, go to the shoe opening and draw another curve parallel to the dipping curve you drew. The right end of it should connect to the laces.

5. Add a Fun Design to Your Shoes

Add a Fun Design to Your Shoes

Your shoe should look almost complete by now, but it needs a fun design to look attractive. You can draw floral patterns, geometric lines, or your favorite brand’s logo. If you don’t have a specific idea in your mind, follow our instructions.

Extend a curved line from the middle of the shoe’s heel to the line that encloses the laces. Make sure the line is only slightly curved. Then, draw another line parallel to it.

Now, you should have a perfect-looking sneaker. If you have enough time on your hands, you can complete the pair with another shoe.

6. Color Your Shoe

Color Your Shoe

After finishing your shoe, you can color it to make it look more realistic. You can use whatever colors you want, but ideally, the front and heel of the shoe should be white. As for the body, you can color it red, blue, pink, purple, etc.

Make sure the two lines you drew in the last step have a different shade from the rest of the shoe to look more attractive. Finally, you can either choose a complimenting color for the laces or leave them white.
